Professional

After graduating from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Nate joined Teach for America where he taught high school math with Baltimore City Public Schools. During this time, he was introduced to a Northwestern Mutual advisor and became a client. Nate was extremely impressed with the work that his advisor did for him and, always having had a passion for finance, decided to make a career change.

Nate joined Northwestern Mutual as a Financial Advisor in 2016. His background as a teacher has given him a unique perspective on working with clients; he believes his role is primarily to educate clients so that they can feel confident making financial decisions for themselves and their families. Nate feels equally passionate about honing his own skills and knowledge. In his time with Northwestern Mutual, Nate completed rigorous coursework and earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional designation in 2020, his Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations in 2021, and his Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designation in 2022.

Nate and his team place a high value on forming deep and lasting relationships with their clients to fully understand their needs and provide the best possible guidance and service. As his practice has grown, Nate has specialized in providing planning services to teachers, engineers, attorneys, and doctors. A native of Southern California, Nate works with clients on both the East and West Coasts and beyond – currently serving clients in 28 states across the country. When Nate is not advising his clients, he is mentoring fellow Northwestern Mutual advisors as a Growth and Development Director. He enjoys the satisfaction and the positive impact that comes from mentoring other advisors to better serve their clientele.

Personal

When Nate is not meeting clients, he enjoys playing the piano, piloting Cessnas over Santa Monica, watching movies of all genres, and getting crushed in pickleball. He lives with his wife, Sarah, whom he met while they were both teachers, and their many houseplants in the small beach town of Playa Del Rey.

Lending a hand in my community.

As the head of  Northwestern Mutual Greater Los Angeles Asian Focus Group, Nate aims to develop and strengthen ties between the Asian-American advisors in the region. He also leverages the outreach of the group to organize community service events with his colleagues in support of nonprofits, such as the Los Angeles Food Bank, and raises money for Northwestern Mutual's philanthropic endeavor of Alex's Lemonade Stand, a childhood cancer research foundation. Outside of work, Nate serves as a lead advisor for the YMCA’s Youth and Government program.

The mission of LARFB is to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community. They source and acquire nutritious food and other products and distribute them to people experiencing nutrition insecurity through their partner agency network and directly through programs.
