About Roman Hernandez

Roman and his wife, Sarah, live in Shoreview, Minnesota with their four children, Selena, Carmen, Luke and Maria.  As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors, participating in sports, and serving their community in various ways.

About Tom Patnode

Tom lives in Inver Grove Heights, MN with his wife Amy and their three daughters, Reegan, Ava, and Olivia. When Tom is not in the hockey arena, you will find him enjoying the outdoors – fishing, hunting, golfing and spending family time on the lake at their cabin in Nisswa, Minnesota.

As employees of Northwestern Mutual, our Intersect Financial team wholeheartedly supports our company's commitment to childhood cancer charities like Pinky Swear, Beads of Courage and Alex's Lemonade Stand. We also support several non-profit organizations and athletic programs that we are passionate about.

United Heroes League

The United Heroes League is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to keep military kids healthy and active through sports by providing them with sports equipment, grants, camps and other special experiences. UHL has provided over $25 million dollars in support to more than 50,000 military families since its inception in 2009. Tom has been an active volunteer with UHL since 2014 and currently serves as the organization’s Chairman of the Board. In 2021, Tom was chosen as one of the Northwestern Mutual’s Community Service Award winners and received a $15,000 grant for UHL to assist with their mission of keeping military kids active in sports.

Simley Girls High School Hockey

Tom is in his 11th season as head coach of the Simley High School Girls’ Hockey team. As a committed and respected member of the hockey community, Tom was voted the MSHSL Class A Coach of the Year Award for the 2022-2023 season. Tom has been recognized twice as the Section 4A Head Coach of the Year in the 2018-2019 and 2021-2022 seasons and as Metro East Conference Coach of the Year in 2019-2020. He is also an active member of the MN Girls Hockey Coaches Association (MGHCA).
