Get to Know Rani Personally
Rani is proud to originally be from Portland, OR. The eldest daughter of a single mother, Rani learned the value of hard work and being resilient at an early age. After attending St. Mary’s Academy on a full scholarship, Rani became a first-generation college graduate in 2008, earning her bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts, Studio Art and Art History from Western Oregon University. In 2009, Rani moved to Zhengzhou, China and taught English to middle and high school students. In 2012, Rani earned a postbaccalaureate degree in Political Science from Portland State University. Rani is a 2023 Emerge Oregon graduate and aspires to hold elected office one day.
Rani grew up with a strong awareness that she was different. Being a queer teen in the 90’s and early 00’s was not something that was openly talked about and certainly was not celebrated, even in Portland, OR. Despite this, after a great deal of self-love and dismantling of the patriarchy, she not only accepts but celebrates her pansexuality. When working with other LBGTQ+ individuals, Rani has a unique lens to the potential challenges and opportunities ones may face and how those can impact financial wellness long-term.
Rani is not your typical financial planner. She spent the last decade as a paralegal for a Family Law and Federal Criminal Defense attorney. It was there she developed her growing passion for equity and accountability within the judicial system.
Travel is essential for Rani. She relishes in the local art, culture, food and hospitality of other regions, both locally and internationally. In her spare time, Rani can be found bouldering up a rock wall, volunteering for a political campaign, decorating her journal with stickers or baking something sweet to share. She loves concerts, karaoke, happy hour on a patio, and spending time on the Oregon coast.

The Historic Poulsen House

Rani’s mentor, Charlene Quaresma, recently purchased a Portland historic landmark, The Johan Pouslen House. Charlene has since transformed it into her dream office. Located on the eastside of the Ross Island Bridge facing the beautiful Willamette River and Downtown Portland, Rani and the rest of her team are blessed to call this iconic home their office. Rani would love to host you at the Money Mansion one day soon!
How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.
When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.
Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.
It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
