When I met Natalia, I was only a few years out of college with big dreams to make it in my newfound healthcare career and a huge fear around finances and planning for the future. Insurance, stocks, bonds, mutual funds were all terms I knew a little bit about and just enough to totally intimidate me about all that I did not know about planning for my future. Natalia reassured me and helped me to put multiple options in place – both for my short-term goals (which have changed over time) and my long-term goals to retire at a “normal” age with sufficient financial stability to enjoy my retirement years. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35… a mere 10 years or so after meeting Natalia… my brain and my body were overwhelmed. As I began to organize and prioritize what I needed to do to care of myself mentally and physically during this time, one of my first phone calls was to Natalia. I called her and asked, “have I done all I should have done to prepare myself for something like this… at least from a financial standpoint?” Her caring and compassion brought me comfort, but her words of reassurance that I had put financial planning in place to protect myself and my assets from a life event like this brought me mental relief that cannot be measured. I never imagined that I would be undergoing treatment for cancer in my mid-30’s, but I am thankful and appreciative that I met Natalia when I did, that we connected, that she helped me to understand financial planning in a way that made sense to me and that I trusted. Having certain insurance plans and security in place, especially during my cancer treatment, allowed me to better focus on what was important in my life – taking care of my physical, mental, and emotional well-being, to beat cancer, to get back on track in my career and continue to experience life!
