They cherish the relationships they have made with their friends, church, business associates and especially with their children Sara, John Jr. and Catherine. Sara is married and recently graduated from Vanderbilt medical school in Nashville. She is in her first year of residency in Ann Arbor Michigan together with her husband George Lin. Johnny is an associate at a private equity firm Kayne Partners in Los Angeles. Catherine just completed her senior year at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and will be heading to Washington University in St. Louis.

John’s wife Kristin consults with our clients on benefit needs, acts as Operations Manager for the firm and is active in her family's banking business.

John enjoys reading, tennis, and volunteering for Salvation Army, Grace United Community Ministries, Princeton alumni association and several non-profit development councils. John graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and Kristin graduated cum laude from Yale University.

Lending a hand in my community.

I like to be very involved in my community, including coaching kids sports, participating in many church activities and supporting missionaries worldwide.

We are involved and actively support the following non-profit organizations:

The Salvation Army Advisory Board - Kansas City

The Salvation Army is at work in 119 countries and has over 1.2 million members worldwide. John works closely with social services which provides emergency shelter for children at risk and services to adults with senior assistance and addiction recovery. As a leader in Christian faith-based human services, The Salvation Army is committed to serve the whole person, body and soul, with integrity and respect, using creative solutions to positively transform lives. Help is given freely each year to hundreds of thousands of people without regard to race, gender, culture or religion. John and his wife Kristin hosted the first Annual Civic Luncheon for The Salvation Army in Kansas City and who better to serve as the featured speaker than KU basketball coach Bill Self.

Its doors first opened in 1924, serving our neighbors throughout Kansas City… humbly welcoming them in the name of Christ to offer help, healing and hope. Every day it strives to meet the needs of local men, women and children who are struggling with poverty, homelessness and other challenges. Annual Roots & Wings Run

John Goodwin & his family compete in the Annual Roots & Wings 5K and 10K run which raises money for Childhood Cancer Research at the Northwestern Mutual Annual Meeting July 22 in Milwaukee. To date, we have contributed over $17 million to the cause and funded over 200,000 hours of research. Since 2012, our employees and financial professionals have worked to accelerate the search for childhood cancer cures while providing support for families facing the disease and survivors struggling with late effects of treatment. John (far left) and Johnny (far right) and Sara (middle) ran the 10k and Catherine and Kristin (spouse) ran the 5K. They are pictured at the finish line after the run this year!

Supporting National Childhood Cancer Research Program

Northwestern Mutual launched a national program in 2012 to support research and care for childhood cancer. To date, Northwestern Mutual has raised more than $10 million and funded over 105,000 hours of research to help discover life-saving treatments. We are honored to stand with medical professionals, nonprofits and families who are fighting this disease. We have also partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF),a national nonprofit that is one of the leaders in funding childhood cancer research.

How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.

When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.

Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.

It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
