What does God's Word say about money?

What God's Word Says about Money

The Bible offers profound wisdom on how we should view and handle money. Here are some key principles:

Stewardship

  • Matthew 25:21 (NIV)"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.'"

God calls us to be faithful stewards of the resources He has entrusted to us.

Contentment

  • Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have."

Being content with God's provision helps us avoid the pitfalls of greed.

Generosity

  • Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)"A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed."

Generosity reflects God's heart and opens the door to His blessings.

Avoiding Worry

  • Philippians 4:6 (NIV)"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Trusting in God means presenting our worries to Him in prayer and not being anxious about our needs.

Avoiding Debt

  • Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)"The borrower is slave to the lender."

While not prohibited, debt is cautioned against, encouraging living within our means.

Honesty and Integrity

  • Proverbs 13:11 (NIV)"Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow."

God values honesty and integrity in all our financial dealings.

Diversification

  • Ecclesiastes 11:2 (NIV)"Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come."

Diversification is encouraged to mitigate risk and ensure stability.

Leaving an Inheritance

  • Proverbs 13:22 (NIV)"A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children."

Planning for the future and leaving an inheritance is seen as wise and righteous.
