  • Enrolled in eDelivery?

    You'll receive an email confirming that your tax forms are ready to download. Once available, you can access all your Northwestern Mutual tax forms in the Documents tab of your online accounts.

  • Not enrolled in eDelivery?

    Your tax forms will be mailed to you.

  • Using TurboTax?

    Download your tax forms from the Documents tab of your online accounts or if you receive your forms by mail, copy them. Then upload your tax forms into TurboTax.

  • Looking for forms for a closed investment account?

    Access your tax forms here using your Northwestern Mutual login credentials.

What's reported to the IRS

1099-R

  • Distributions including rollovers taken from your qualified retirement account. See IRS Publication 590-B.

  • Qualified retirement accounts transferred directly to outside financial firms (a Trustee-to-Trustee transfer from one IRA to another) will not generate a 1099-R

  • Contributions, including rollovers made to your retirement account. See IRS Publication 590-A

  • 5498s are issued and mailed by May 31 for any prior year contributions and/or rollovers. If May 31 falls on a weekend, issuance and mailing will occur on the previous business day.

  • See your statements for contributions made prior to receiving form 5498

  • Unrelated Business Taxable Income, known as UBTI for income generated over $1,000 in a pretax qualified account (such as an IRA) has invested in a limited partnership (LP) and/or master limited partnership (MLP)
