Personal
Nathan and Ashley were married in the summer of 2002. They try to keep up with their two sets of twins, Sofia and Ian and Vivienne and Samantha—“try” being the optimal word—organized. Much of Nathan’s time is spent either attending his kids’ events or getting involved with community organizations. Coaching his kids in sports has always been very rewarding. Whether it’s soccer, baseball, or corralling 20 elementary school boys on a basketball court, Nathan makes time to be present with his family.
Occasionally, you will see Nathan and Ashley sneak off to a movie or enjoy a night out with friends. When Nathan needs to get away, he enjoys the occasional trip to the golf course.
Lending a hand in my community.
As part of Northwestern Mutual, I'm proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)
ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

Sammy’s Superheroes
Nathan has been on several boards, including the pediatric cancer foundation, Sammy’s Superheroes. This work led to him winning a $15,000 grant for the foundation from Northwestern Mutual for a community service award in 2016. It was a highlight of his career to stand on stage in Chicago to accept the award. This success was followed by a regional award from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in 2017, which recognized the efforts of Nebraska to raise awareness about the seriousness of pediatric cancer with $100,000 to be given to local Nebraska philanthropies.
Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
Giving back to the community is very important to the whole Karges family. Every year, they participate in the JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation) walk in Lincoln with family and friends in support of Sofia, Nathan's daughter, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 7.
Childhood Cancer Impact Award Winner 2017
Aside from involvement with these causes, Nathan’s other community ties include the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the local Elk’s Club. Check back for updates on events the Northwestern Mutual office of Columbus is involved in and ways you can support the Columbus community!

Thank you!
Thank you to all my family, friends and Northwestern Mutual Nebraska for truly making an impact. Our team has contributed over 5,000 volunteer hours, hosted more than 50+ events, and raised more than $800,000 to support this critical fight against Pediatric Cancer.
